Approved Modalities
- AcupressureAcupressure is an alternative medicine technique often used in conjunction with acupuncture or reflexology. It is based on the concept of life energy, which flows through meridians in the body. In treatment, physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points, or ashi trigger points, with the aim of clearing blockages in these meridians. Pressure may be applied by hand, by elbow, or with various devices.
- Herbalism / Herbal MedicineHerbalism, spanning over 5,000 years, remains a prominent form of medicine globally. Herbalists employ plants in various forms like teas, tinctures, and creams to address diverse medical conditions, utilizing leaves, flowers, roots, and bark. For instance, Echinacea bolsters the immune system, while Evening Primrose aids in managing PMS and arthritis symptoms. Herbalists adopt a holistic approach, considering physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, and lifestyle factors to address symptoms and root causes. While herbalists cannot diagnose or prescribe without medical licensing, they can recommend, educate, and dispense herbal remedies. With an emphasis on natural healing and individualized care, herbalism continues to offer valuable options for promoting health and wellness.
- HomeopathyHomeopathy, a medical system, developed in Germany by Samuel Hahnermann more than 200 years ago, is an alternative therapy based on the idea of treating “like with like.” By treating a disease or condition with a substance that produces similar symptoms in healthy people, homeopathy activates the body’s natural defences. For example, watery eyes are a common symptom for allergies, so in homeopathy, allergies might be treated with tiny doses of onion, which also makes your eyes water. Homeopaths prescribe natural substances that create similar reactions to a patient’s symptoms, to alleviate them. Before being given to a patient, substances are mixed in a solution of water or alcohol, weakening them substantially, and transferring the substance’s healing essence into the solution.
- IridologyIridology, established by Philippi Meyers in 1670 and further developed by Ignaz Péczely in 1881, helps holistic practitioners assess a client's constitution and identify potential organ and system imbalances or predisposition to certain diseases. Practitioners use a magnifying glass or iris camera to examine the iris's structure, texture, and color, referring to a chart that maps the iris into zones to identify health and sub-health issues. Changes over time can help track conditions' progression or improvement. Iridology is not used for diagnosis but rather for implementing preventive strategies and therapeutic lifestyle changes in holistic practices.
- NutritionNutritionists deal with general nutritional aims and work with clients to achieve health goals through personalised nutrition plans and supplementation. They can provide tailored advice to suit a person’s diet, exercise routine, sleeping habits, career and life commitments, and nutritional needs. Nutritionists perform an initial assessment and create a realistic plan that addresses health, weight and nutritional goals, provide education about food and nutrition (for example: how to read a food label) and provide meal plans and recipes. Consulting with a Nutritionist can help clients improve their immune health, improve biomarkers and decrease susceptibility to disease, optimise their physical and mental well-being, assist with weight gain or weight loss, or prepare the body for a specific life event. Nutritionists cannot diagnose eating disorders or design diets to treat specific medical conditions.
- HypnotherapyHypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that utilizes hypnosis to access and influence the subconscious mind. It involves inducing a relaxed state, known as a trance, where the individual is open to positive suggestions and guided imagery. This altered state of consciousness allows the hypnotherapist to work with the client's deeper levels of awareness to address and transform limiting beliefs, behaviours, and emotional patterns. It is a collaborative process that aims to harness the power of the mind for personal growth and healing. For our purposes, it is important to differentiate Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy from Clinical Hypnotherapy. Clinical Hypnotherapists undergo extensive training and are skilled in Counselling/Psychotherapy, making them adept at handling more complex cases such as trauma/PTSD, fears and phobias, sexual dysfunction, and so on.
- Past Life Regression TherapyPast Life Regression Therapy is based on the premise that humans experience many incarnations and there is a carry-over from one life to the next. By guiding clients into a relaxed state (similar to hypnosis), practitioners can help their clients to access memories from a past life in an effort to resolve or find clarity around a specific emotional, physical or spiritual issue. Accessing past lives may also provide insight into why their clients feel drawn to certain places or people or why they have certain talents or affinities. Past Life Regression Therapists are not qualified to provide counselling/therapy and anything outside their scope of practice should be referred to a medical professional.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a widely used therapeutic approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It aims to identify and modify negative thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to distressing emotions and problematic behaviors. Through collaborative and goal-oriented sessions, CBT helps individuals develop strategies to challenge and reframe negative thinking, build healthier coping skills, and promote positive behavioral changes. It is a structured and evidence-based therapy that is effective in treating a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, phobias, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). CBT empowers individuals to actively participate in their own healing and promotes long-term psychological wellbeing.
- Allergy TestingAllergy testing is used to identify potential allergens that may trigger adverse reactions in individuals. Practitioners can assess the body’s energetic response to different substances via applied kinesiology, electrodermal screening and bioresonance testing. They can also use methods such as elimination diets, blood testing, hair analysis, provocation, and iridology. Complementary practitioners may use allergy testing to recommend personalized alternative treatments, dietary adjustments, or natural remedies to manage potential allergic symptoms.
- Metaphysical Practitioner (Metaphysics)Metaphysics, derived from the Greek word meaning “over and beyond physics,” refers to the study of inquiring beyond physical and human science and the ultimate nature of existence. These studies seek to explain universal or inherent elements of reality which aren’t easily experienced or discovered in everyday life. It is through this path people may discover truth, purpose and meaning. Metaphysical practitioners help people along the path of personal realisation and self-discovery.
