- Equine Facilitated Learning - EFLEquine Facilitated Learning (EFL) is an experiential learning approach where clients are offered safe experiences with horses in order to develop social-emotional skills and personal and professional development (i.e. leadership skills and team building). EFL provides an opportunity to evolve problem-solving skills, resilience, self-confidence and self-esteem through activities such as grooming, riding and training horses. By building a trusting relationship and connection with horses, clients learn how to better relate to themselves, each other and the environment. EFL is not a substitute for therapy and facilitators need to be aware of the boundary between therapy and learning. When appropriate, EFL practitioners must refer their clients to an appropriate mental or health care professional. Modality can also be known as Equine Experiential Learning (EEL), Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) or Equine Therapy.Training provided by The Equine Psychotherapy Institute
